Company Description:

We’re a small woodworking business out of Youngstown, Ohio, specializing in live edge lumber, carefully and meticulously removing bark from the wood while preserving the natural shape and character hidden beneath. We approach woodworking from a “nature made this awesome, I’m gonna try not to screw it up” framework. We use primarily locally harvested domestic hardwoods, milled and kiln dried locally, to create charcuterie boards, serving trays, “Lazy Susans”, live edge butcher blocks, end grain cutting boards and more.

We also like to incorporate less traditional materials into our work, we use powerful neodymium magnets to make live edge knife holding racks and bottle openers that catch your caps as they fall. We use epoxy to fill voids and create pieces out of otherwise unusable lumber, not terribly dissimilar from Kintsugi, the Japanese technique of using gold to glue broken pottery back together, creating something more beautiful and unique than what you started with.

We laser engrave and personalize our items, adding monograms, logos and even QR codes to gifts for your loved ones. We can laser engrave your precious photos onto wood and during the holidays we use our lasers to cut out personalized Christmas ornaments to hang from your tree. And we don’t just engrave wood, our lasers can engrave slate and etch glass, we can personalize tumblers, we can even mark and color steel. We also use CNC machines to carve wood, milling custom signs and plaques, carving waving flags and intricate crosses, or making complex wood or epoxy inlays in custom cutting boards.

Made In China. Made In Taiwan. Made In Singapore. Buy a piece of furniture or a wooden item at a big box store and this is what you can expect to see on the tag. You can also expect that it will fall to pieces in a season or two. This is not what you should expect from Burning Oaks Woodworking. We make quality items out of quality materials, not laminated fiberboard disguised to look like wood. We just use wood.
